Moblissa Multi-Grade School PDF Print E-mail

Since the close of the Moblissa Dairy, the community of Moblissa had been without a school.

In May of 2009, we petitioned the government to partner with us in re-establishing a school within the Moblissa community.  The Moblissa Community Church building was offered as a facility that would be able to host the school for an indefinite period of time, and possibly permanently.

Much to our surprise we were met with great eagerness by the Ministry of education for the region.

July 2009 began the first Summer Programme at the school.

In August 2009, Jason Pascale, Alan Davis, and Peter Cox, along with John Brewer from BYKOTA Church in Missouri, traveled to Guyana tasked with aiding the local community in making some necessary improvements to the facilities so that the first full school year could begin in September of 2009.

This trip was a success and the school has been now in operation for 2 complete school years.  This initiative has saved the Ministry of Education millions of Guyanese Dollars as they did not have to erect a facility, and has saved the community significant costs in transportation and provided and safer and more cost effective way for the children of the community to attend school.

We also have been able to provide a much needed Teacher's Assistant from the local community which provided a two-fold benefit: Tiffany was able to complete her last subjects in school while gaining valuable experience, earning a better wage, and helping the children of her own community, and we were able to provide the assistance to the teachers, which the Ministry was not able to provide.

We look forward to the continued improvement of the school!
